Overview
The goal of this course is to provide current information on the indications, benefits, risks, and administration guidelines of parenteral nutrition therapy.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Parenteral nutrition can be a life-saving measure for patients who have no enteral access or those who cannot meet their nutrient needs enterally. While parenteral nutrition can optimize outcomes in certain patient populations, it continues to have associated risks with its use. As a clinician, it is important to be knowledgeable on best practices for use of parenteral nutrition to ensure your patient is receiving evidence-based interventions and progressing towards desirable outcomes while receiving this specialized nutrition therapy.
- Identify clinical indicators necessitating the use of parenteral nutrition therapy.
- Recognize components of adult and pediatric parenteral nutrition formulations.
- Recognize and reduce the risks associated with parenteral nutrition therapy.
