Goals and Learning Outcomes
Inpatient nursing care is not the same as ambulatory care. When nurses transition into an ambulatory environment, there are some key concepts that can help one understand the characteristic background and needs of the ambulatory field. There are even preceptor strategies to facilitate successful transition into ambulatory care. Come learn about transitioning into ambulatory care. OnCourse Learning acknowledges and thanks the Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust for their help with this preceptor-ambulatory content and dedication to preceptor and ambulatory nursing education.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify major societal and healthcare industry changes and their impact on ambulatory care practice
  • List at least three differences between ambulatory care settings and inpatient settings
  • Discuss reasons that nurses are motivated to practice in ambulatory care
  • Discuss challenges faced by nurses transitioning from inpatient to ambulatory care settings
  • Describe preceptor strategies to facilitate a successful transition into ambulatory care
