Overview
The goal of this course is to provide nurses and nurse preceptors in ambulatory care with information about effective leadership skills that can enhance preceptorships.
 
After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Identify key qualities of an effective leader and various leadership styles.
  • Indicate ways preceptors can be leaders of change and how one can develop their leadership skills.

Goals and Learning Outcomes
Leadership skills can improve your nursing and/or preceptor role in ambulatory care settings in a variety of ways. Whether you are a staff nurse, supervisor, or educator, learning how to be a better leader can enhance the way you precept and guide new staff. It is also important to understand some key differences between leadership and management in ambulatory care. With diverse settings and constant coordination of care in ambulatory care settings, having the skills to be a confident and effective leader can make all the difference.
