This continuing education course will provide a summary of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s Asthma Management Guidelines, focusing on adults.
The goal of this course is to prepare nurses and respiratory therapists working in acute care settings with information to better care for patients with asthma.
This course is not affiliated with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
- List at least three common symptoms of asthma
- Describe the asthma severity and control classifications
- Differentiate between long-term controller and quick-relief asthma medications and describe at least one potential adverse effect for each medication in each class
- Describe the pathophysiology and severity and control classifications of asthma.
- Discuss how patient education and trigger management are key parts of asthma management
- Differentiate between recommended and alternative therapy and considerations for use of medications and formulations.
