The goal of this module is to provide nurses with knowledge of immunizations.

The development of many vaccines in the last 70 years has dramatically reduced the cases of infectious diseases in the United States and around the world. However, recent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases have underscored the challenges to the prevention of infectious diseases. This updated module provides the background information needed to increase understanding about current recommendations and vaccination information needed to immunize children and adolescents appropriately. The goal of this module is to provide nurses with knowledge of immunizations.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify vaccination standards for children.
  • Identify ways to remove barriers to immunization administration.
  • Describe nursing strategies to promote safe administration of childhood immunizations.
  • Identify ways to remove barriers to immunization administration
  • List two recent changes in protocols for recommended childhood immunizations
  • Implement nursing strategies to promote safe administration of childhood immunizations
