Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes
This course is part of a series that prepares nurses for the Certified Nurse Manager Leader Exam (CNML). Human resource (HR) management is a significant topic covered on the CNML exam and is therefore covered in two courses within this certification review series. This second course continues the knowledge learned from part one which focused more on immediate management needs of CNMLs. In part two, this course expands discussions to the overarching leadership aspect of being a CNML and the impact within both the work environment and the larger ecosystem of the nursing profession.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Review Daniel Goleman’s competencies for social awareness
  • Describe Bruce Tuckerman’s stages of group development
  • Discuss mentoring guidelines
  • Describe the principles of effective communication
  • Examine the importance of cultural diversity and the impact of bullying in the workplace
  • Identify how transformational leadership theory applies to evidence-based practice (EBP) and emotional intelligence (EI), and social awareness concepts.
  • Recall how nursing leaders influence others by role modeling professional behavior, acting as change agents in organizational and political activism, and further developing staff.
  • Recognize concepts that foster a healthy work environment, while implementing strategic interventions to address relationship, conflict, and situational management.
