Maternal mental health conditions are the most common complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Given the increasing prevalence and severity of perinatal depression, early recognition and intervention are essential. This course provides an evidence-based framework for acute care nurses to screen, assess, and intervene in postpartum psychiatric disorders.


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify perinatal depression and its risks to the patient, infant, and family unit.
  • Select appropriate interventions for perinatal depression, including screening, education, treatment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Recall common risk factors for perinatal depression and barriers to care.
