Overview
This course provides nurses in acute care settings with knowledge and tools to screen, identify, and respond to perinatal depression.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Maternal mental health conditions are the most common complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Given the increasing prevalence and severity of perinatal depression, early recognition and intervention are essential. This course provides an evidence-based framework for acute care nurses to screen, assess, and intervene in postpartum psychiatric disorders.
- Identify perinatal depression and its risks to the patient, infant, and family unit.
- Select appropriate interventions for perinatal depression, including screening, education, treatment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Recall common risk factors for perinatal depression and barriers to care.
