Overview
Overview
The goal of this course is to outline the process of strategic planning and how to include nurse leaders and bedside clinicians in these initiatives.
Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes
Strategic planning has historically been left to hospital administration, with a top-down approach to financial planning, implementation of improvement measures, and adherence to national quality guidelines. Research is showing that the facilities with exemplary results in patient safety, staff retention, implementation of evidence, and fiscal success have adjusted strategic planning initiatives to engage staff at every level of the organization. Gauging ideas from clinical teams and using these teams to disseminate information is proving to be time and cost-effective while reducing employee burnout, improving patient care, and bolstering the reputation of the hospital system.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the concept of strategic planning, how to determine organizational readiness, and appropriate team building.
  • Summarize the strategic planning process from development to action to re-evaluation.
  • Outline barriers to success and ways to prevent or circumvent these as well as future trends and considerations.
