Overview
The goal of this course is to assist nurses in all settings in providing education, support, and resources for FCs.Goals and Learning Outcomes
The required need for unpaid family caregivers (FCs) is only increasing as more people age, are diagnosed with a disease, or have a disability rendering them unable to live independently. Caregiving can be incredibly rewarding. However, caregiving can be extremely detrimental on the physical and mental health, as well as financial well-being of the FC.
Nursing can improve the mental and physical health of FCs and assist with difficult decisions. They can provide program referrals for respite care. Nurse can also be the conduit of support for special FC populations, such as for military and those caring for children with special needs.
- Recall caregiver definitions, types of FCs, and care transition resulting in the need for FCs.
- Identify key burdens impacting FCs.
- Identify key nursing tools and resources to assist with FC burden.
