Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes

The body’s blood glucose levels fluctuate between a certain range throughout the day as part of the physiological response to foods eaten and physical activity. For patients with type 1 diabetes, managing these fluctuations is important for the prevention of short-term and long-term complications. Due to the pathophysiology of type 1 diabetes, hypoglycemic episodes are a high concern for those with the condition. Educating your patient and their caregiver on preventing and treating hypoglycemia is a necessary component of their care plan.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the causes of and the physiological response to hypoglycemia.
  • Indicate clinical interventions for the prevention and treatment of hypoglycemia.
