The goal of this program is to update nurses’ knowledge about the physiology of menopause, and the risks and benefits of menopause therapies.

Menopause refers to the time of life when menstruation stops after ovarian activity loss. The ovaries stop making the female hormones, mostly estrogen. Perimenopause encompasses the period that may last for years before the cessation of menstruation. This is also known as the “menopausal transition.” This course provides an overview of menopause, including the risks and benefits of pharmacological and nontraditional therapies to manage symptoms.

 

The goal of this course is to inform nurses in acute care with knowledge of menopause.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize the physiology of menopause and its effects on body systems.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits of traditional and nontraditional therapy options.
  • Identify areas of focus for nursing care and support of patients undergoing menopause.
