Lymphedema and wounds associated with it represent a difficult issue to deal with, primarily because the lymphatic system does not neatly fall into any medical specialty. Consequently, few clinicians are well versed in its pathophysiology or treatment. While there is no definitive cure for lymphedema, managing the progression and minimizing complications is of utmost importance.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize critical anatomical and clinical elements of lymphedema.
  • Discuss at least three treatment options used in managing lymphedema.
  • Describe at least three potential cutaneous complications of lymphedema.
  • Formulate an effective interprofessional management plan of lymphedema and wounds associated with it.
