This course provides the healthcare team with an overview of malignant wounds, their impact on function, and symptom management.Goals and Learning Outcomes
A malignant wound may result from a primary cutaneous malignancy or metastasis of existing cancer, or be a malignant transformation of an existing wound. Malignant transformation of an existing wound develops from chronic irritation and inflammation when a chronic wound undergoes changes that transform it into a malignant ulcer.
The goal of this course is to update the healthcare team with information about malignant wounds and ways to manage the associated physical and psychosocial symptoms.
- Identify malignant wounds, how they develop, and the challenges associated with them.
- Recall psychosocial concerns of patients with malignant wounds and their families.
