Overview
The goal of this course is to equip healthcare personnel with knowledge of strategies for overcoming workplace communication challenges.Goals and Learning Outcomes
When communicating therapeutically with patients, most healthcare professionals are skillful and confident. Conversely, when an angry patient or colleague confronts you, communicating effectively may become an unexpected challenge.
The goal of this course is to equip healthcare personnel in acute care facilities with knowledge of strategies for overcoming workplace communication challenges.
- Identify three primary communication styles
- Discuss ways in which men and women differ in their communication style and stimuli for anger
- Discuss strategies to communicate with people who are upset or angry
- Identify the four primary communication styles, their influencing factors on communication, and penalties of ineffective communication.
- Recognize how unconscious bias can affect interprofessional communication and ways to manage it.
- Recall strategies to refuse unreasonable requests and how to communicate with an angry or distressed person.
