Overview
Non-anesthesia professionals are becoming increasingly involved in the administration of moderate sedation. This requires specific competencies consistent with state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and the practitioner’s scope of practice, education, and training.
Goals and Learning Outcomes
- Identify the levels of the sedation continuum and indications suggesting a patient is deeper than intended.
- Define the periprocedural nursing responsibilities and considerations for administering medications during moderate sedation.
- Recall the preprocedural considerations and recommendations for monitoring patients receiving moderate sedation.
