This course provides nurses and surgical technologists with the perioperative considerations of modified radical mastectomy.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Modified radical mastectomy is a surgical procedure that is commonly performed on women diagnosed with operable breast cancer. Although it is an invasive procedure, modified radical mastectomy remains a valuable and viable option for many women with breast cancer. In some cases, for people with early-stage breast cancer and no signs of cancer spreading, breast reconstruction may be done during the same surgery or as a separate procedure.
This course provides nurses and surgical technologists with the perioperative considerations of modified radical mastectomy.- Identify basic breast anatomy and factors that contribute to the development of breast cancer.
- Recall the perioperative considerations of modified radical mastectomy.
- Recognize potential complications and surgical variations of modified radical mastectomy.
