The purpose of this course is to an overview of neurological, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal conditions in the neonatal population.

Goals and Learning Outcomes
Neuromuscular development in the fetus and neonate is complex. This course will review normal and abnormal findings involving the neurological and musculoskeletal systems. Neuromuscular abnormalities and conditions will also be covered including risk factors, symptoms, and management. The purpose of this course is to provide the leaner with an overview of neurological, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal conditions in the neonatal population.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Discuss brain death criteria for the neonate
  • Describe risk factors, assessment, and management of brain hemorrhages, perinatal asphyxia, hydrocephalus, and neonatal seizures
  • Identify at least 3 neural tube defects
  • Review normal and abnormal neurological assessment findings
  • Review normal and abnormal neurological and musculoskeletal assessment findings.
  • Identify at least two neurological and musculoskeletal abnormalities.
  • Describe risk factors, assessment, and management of brain hemorrhages, perinatal asphyxia, hydrocephalus, neonatal seizures, and fractures.
