Overview
Pain can cause significant distress not only for people with serious illnesses but also for their families and caregivers. It is one of the most common symptoms in palliative care, one of the most feared, and unfortunately one that is frequently undertreated. To manage pain effectively, you must understand and possibly rethink some basic ideas about pain and pain treatment. In this course, you will learn the epidemiology of pain, the problems that arise because of undertreated pain, the components of a pain assessment, the role of the palliative care team, and methods to treat pain in palliative care.
