In recent years, healthcare professionals have made significant progress in the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of many perinatal infections. Previously common conditions, such as congenital rubella syndrome, have been eliminated through effective screening, immunization, and treatment. However, infections remain a threat during the perinatal period.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the etiology and epidemiology, assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment of perinatal infections.
  • Explain modes of transmission of various pathogens during the perinatal period.
  • List clinical outcomes associated with perinatal infections.
