The goal of this course is to educate nurses and social workers in all acute care settings about preventing violence in the acute setting.

The threat of violence in acute healthcare settings mirrors that of the larger work environment. Experts agree that education and prevention are the best actions to mitigate this threat. Nurses and social workers in acute care settings must be educated to develop a sense of heightened awareness and use their expertise in managing the risk of violence in their professional environments. They can do this by training to recognize risk factors and warning signs, and using interventions that can guard their patients and themselves from harm.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify at least five risk factors for violence in acute healthcare settings.
  • List three interventions used to prevent violence in acute healthcare settings.
