Overview
Practitioners are educated on the prevalence, demographics, offender characteristics, policies, and prevention of violence on college campuses.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Approximately 13% of students experience sexual violence on college campuses in the U.S. each year (Cantor et al., 2020). This is likely an underrepresentation, as most students do not report sexual assault or harassment. Sexual violence leads to several consequences, including medical, psychological, and functional difficulties.
Nursing professionals can be integral to the safety and well-being of college students at risk for sexual violence. This course provides information on screening methods and ways to provide trauma-informed care to all students. You will learn ways to respond when patients disclose sexual violence. Lastly, you will learn the kinds of targeted efforts universities employ to prevent sexual violence on campus.
The goal of this course is to provide skills and knowledge to nursing professionals in acute settings to address sexual violence on college campuses.
