Overview
The goal of this course is to provide nurses in acute care settings with information about organ and tissue donation issues.Goals and Learning Outcomes
Nurses play an important role in identifying a patient who may be a prospective organ or tissue donor, making the referral to the organ procurement organization (OPO), and collaborating with the OPO when there is the possibility of donation. This module focuses on the role of the nurse in organ procurement.
The goal of this course is to provide nurses in acute care settings with information about organ and tissue donation issues.
- Describe the scope of the need for organ and tissue transplants.
- Explain the donation conversation, including the notification and authorization process.
- Present key facts surrounding donation
- Explain the collaborative relationship between the organ procurement organization and hospital staff, specifically the role of the nurse, in the donation process.
- Identify key truths and facts surrounding donation.
