Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes
Tinnitus, the perception of unwanted sounds coming from the ear, is a symptom, not a disease, and is one of the most common health conditions in the United States. It may occur in people whose hearing ranges from normal to deaf. Persistent tinnitus can affect a person’s mood, leading to general psychological distress and depression. The most common negative effects on quality of life are a sense of annoyance, inability to concentrate, and sleep disturbances. This course describes tinnitus, its causes, diagnosis, and treatment.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the prevalence and health consequences of tinnitus.
  • Describe age-related and pathologic causes of tinnitus.
  • Outline the essential elements in the assessment of patients with tinnitus and in healthcare interventions.
