Goals and Learning Outcomes

Tourette syndrome (TS) (also known as Tourette’s disorder) is a neuropsychiatric spectrum disorder with childhood-onset characterized by persistent involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics (Tourette Association of America [TAA], n.d.a). Most children with TS have at least one additional mental health or neurodevelopmental condition, or behavioral disorder. There is no cure for TS, but there are several evidence-based treatments available. Children with TS are present in all institutions, most often in schools, where school nurses play a vital role in accommodation. This course describes the history, diagnosis, treatment, and management of TS.
