The goal of this course is to prepare nurses in acute care with skills to assist in transitioning to a charge nurse role.

Goals and Learning Outcomes
This course will review the charge nurse role as it pertains to the mission, vision, and values of the healthcare organization. We will identify key aspects of workplace culture and a healthy work environment, and how these characteristics influence what nurses do, as both caregivers and supervisors. Lastly, we will explore the complexities of the cost of care and the impact that shift-based decisions have on these costs.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Analyze the impact of the mission, vision, and values of an organization and unit.
  • Describe elements of a healthy work environment and continuous quality improvement.
  • Discuss three ways to reduce and control costs without sacrificing quality.
