The goal of this course is to increase nurses’ knowledge about the screening methods and treatment options associated with prostate cancer.
Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. An estimated 180,890 new cases of prostate cancer will occur in the U.S. in 2016, as well as 26,120 related deaths, making prostate cancer the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in men (second only to lung cancer). Because treatment choices are varied, and some have a wide range of adverse effects, comprehensive physical and psychological evaluations are essential in determining the best treatment plan for patients. This module will discuss screening methods and treatment options related to prostate cancer.

The content in this course is applicable to nurses working in acute care.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • List early-detection measures for prostate cancer
  • Describe treatment options for patients with prostate cancer
  • Discuss the two most common adverse effects encountered by men with prostate cancer after surgery or radiation therapy
